MALL —
Info

  1. Business Matters
  • MALL stands for Mass Architectural Loopty Loops. Or Miniature Angles & Little Lines. Or Maximum Arches with Limited Liability—an acronym with built-in flexibility.
  • MALL uses the acronym, not to be quick or flippant, but because our architectural interests shift for each project.
  • MALL is committed to projects that hack typologies, take creative risks, reference popular culture, and invent representation.
2. Background
  • Born in Alabama (b. 1979), Jennifer spent the first thirteen years of practice teaching at Harvard GSD, Georgia Tech, and Woodbury University.

MADE IN OPA LOCKA

Made in Opa-locka presents a new model for architectural practice that is simultaneously research and realization; both critical and rooted in the difficult realities of race, class, and economics; and that is opportunistic in leveraging new sources of funding for experimental architecture in the public realm.

Operating under the guise as public artists, architects Bonner+Stayner embarked in a large urban renewal project to include three Public Houses and nine Micro-Enterprises. Working with the local building stock in this north Miami neighborhood, we propose micro additions to houses to promote the up-start of at-home businesses while adding storefront windows to other homes encouraging public spaces for all, such as, an art hotel, business incubator, and after-school program. To acheive these projects Bonner+Stayner proposed to work with city officials to re-write the zoning code for the city of Opa-Locka.
